Pictures from the 2019 Comic-Con International, part 4 (Friday, 7/19)

We've got a bunch of pictures to get through for Friday at Comic-Con! Let's take a look!

I saw this while driving to the parking garage in the morning. I have to believe that this wasn't a robot being delivered somewhere, right? That it was driven around like a billboard all day? No matter what the case, bravo to whomever came up with this idea. I loved seeing it.

First costumes of the day! Both have pretty good beards.

Funko had two big displays at the show this year, one on each end of the convention center. This one was near row 100, and the Comic-Con Toucan was showcased.

Was there...a medieval theme going on on Friday that I wasn't aware of? These are some great costumes, even if I have no idea if they're from a particular property.

WAIT! I KNOW THIS ONE!

Here's a dog. I liked it.

Bob's Burgers continues to be a popular draw at Comic-Con. Great job with the mustache and glasses for this couple.

Heckman!

The Red Jacket and Greenwoman!

Here's some character-and-episode-specific Star Trek dress-up - it's Jadzia Dax from the "Trials and Tribble-ations" episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine!

This woman really went above and beyond with this Nacho Libre outfit. A tip of the cap to you, ma'am.

It's gotta be tough to wear such a big costume at Comic-Con. But if you're going to go for an H.R. Pufnstuf look, you might as well go big.

I'm pretty sure these were real people. I think.

I still haven't seen the new Toy Story movie. What is wrong with me? I'm sorry, world.

I'll take any Fantastic Four costume I can get. Sue here was the only FF costume I saw this year - good for you for carrying that (Human) Torch!

I try to stop by and see my friend (and long-time Marvel artist) Todd Nauck at every show. He's a nice guy and allows me to get frowny pictures with him every year. Hooray!

There's a booth near the artist alley section that always has these incredible pieces of art on display and for sale. I think that's an Action Comics #350 original cover near the top right. Unbelievable!

Strongbad makes and appearance.

I don't usually take pictures of toys (because you can see those anywhere!), but my goodness, this Unicron figure is a sight to behold. It's incredible!

Look, it's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!

Check out this great MOTU diorama that was constructed just for the show with original '80s figures. How great!

Let's end this post with a few Cupheads. There were some really great costumes to see on Friday - so much so that this is only about half of the pictures I have to show. I'll post more soon!

Pictures from the 2018 New York Comic Con, part 3 (Saturday, 10/6)

I had so many pictures from Saturday at NYCC, we're getting a second post. Here we go!

Is it just me, or are Ghost Rider costumes really killing it over the last few years? Costuming in general has gotten a lot more professional-level, I guess, but I see more incredible Ghost Rider costumes than any other. Which one is this one, Johnny Blaze?

At the Tick booth, I ran into Barry Josephson, one of the executive producers on the current Amazon show! I, uh, gave him some pins.

Then I saw Tiffany Smith! I know her as a movie critic from various Rotten Tomatoes panels, but she's also an actress and show host!

Dr. Doom soon passed by. The guy in the background seems wary, as he should be.

The NYCC Tick issue debuted here (naturally), and here I am to the side of the New England Comics booth with artist Ian Nichols. Some VIP members came to the booth (as seen in the background) so we moved aside for a while.

And then I saw Jennie Wood! We had to discuss a signing on Sunday, and you'll see pictures from that...when I post Sunday's pictures.

Working my way out toward the concourse area, I saw this great She-Ra interactive display, and also this fan dressed as the Sorceress!

Since I had a few minutes, and because it looked so great, I decided to check out the display. The lines were confusing and I very well might have (unintentionally, I promise) skipped a major backlog of people waiting to see this.

I of course remember He-Man and the Masters of the Universe fondly from my 1980s childhood, but I never had any strong feelings about She-Ra at all. The walk-through was fun and we got some pins and other convention swag, and it convinced me to check out the show, even though I was sure it would be aimed at a younger audience. And then I watched the show and loved every minute of it. It's a great show and absolutely worth seeing if you haven't yet!

The show ended for the day soon after, but I managed to get a few more pictures of people in costume on this, the busiest day of the event. Here's Hellboy!

Ant-Man and Infinity War-era Spider-Man!

It's the show floor!

This person was ahead of the Spider-Verse game. Those octopus arms had to be cumbersome.

Is that a Mortal Combat/Green Lantern mashup? Weird.

This gentleman greeted me as I waited outside of a restaurant to eat dinner. Any 2099 costume is a good costume.

I wrote about this in January, but after dinner, I took off to find the Baxter Building!

I might have crashed a fancy party at Rockefeller Plaza.

On the way back to catch the train, I walked by NBC Studios and someone made fun of me for getting a picture here. It might have been SNL backup band members. That's okay - I had a Fantastic Four shirt on and was carrying convention items. I realize I looked like a tourist. I regret nothing.

I'll post Sunday's pictures soon!

The Tick and Flutter at NYCC!

The 2018 New York Comic Con starts in...about 10 hours? I'll be attending and signing this year, and here's a quick look at what I'll have at the show:

New England Comics will have a booth once again this year, and some exclusive comics to sell. Above is the pencil-only cover that debuts at the show.

There's also a blank sketch cover to the same issue. The comics are limited to 100 and 200 copies of each, which means they are...even more limited than usual.

NEC is located at booth 1365 - I'll be there to sign copies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Artist Ian Nichols will also be there, so you can get the book signed by (maybe?) everyone who worked on it!

The Tick TV cast will have a panel on Sunday at 4:00 as well. It's the absolute last thing happening at NYCC, so I hope that I can squeeze into the room, which I hear seats (hmm) 200 people.

Jennie Wood shared these next two pictures of one of the Flutter Collection proof copies! This is very exciting. The book should be on sale everywhere next month.

Jennie also managed to line up a signing at the Dark Horse Comics booth (1636) on Sunday from 2:00-2:50. I'll be there with Jennie and artist Jeff McComsey, which is really a pretty big thrill for me. We'll have some giveaways (since the book isn't technically out yet) to hand out. If you're in New York for the convention, please stop by and see us! The Hellboy cast is signing in the same spot earlier at the show, so I'll be looking to see if David Harbour left anything behind, just in case.

Pictures from the 2017 Comic-Con International, part 6: Sunday, 7/23

Even Comic-Con must end...in theory, at least. Professional registration for 2018 was bumped up to the beginning of October this time around (it's usually in the spring), which is just madness! I was able to snag my badge for next year, so we can all look forward to seeing more of these pictures on this blog, the blog of Comic-Con pictures. Below are from Sunday, the final day of the show!

The SpongeBob pineapple in the background matches these "Average Joes" uniforms almost perfectly! I'm kind of surprised that the movie "Dodgeball" has achieved minor cult status. It might be the only Ben Stiller movie I really enjoy!

Lego, as always, had some impressive displays. Here's robot-hand-Star-Wars-guy! That is his official name.

And here's a really cool Thor: Ragnarok display, just in time for the movie!

This Bender costume looks like a mass-produced Halloween costume. Can it be true? Is this available in stores?

I haven't spent much time outside of Comic-Con in the past few years - or at least, I haven't spent as much time as I'd like. The crowds are just getting more plentiful and it's been pretty warm in recent years as well. But, as in years past, I get the desire to walk outside on Sunday as I feel the convention starting to ebb. Cartoon Network has been putting these and similar balloons out in recent years. I guess that's they're thing.

I probably miss the Adult Swim on the Green event more than anything else outside. This activity zone more than any other has gotten too crowded to visit without an hours-long wait involved. It's hard to justify waiting so long just to enter the area, so I haven't seen much of it in the past two years. The carnival-style games were fun, but not worth the time drain and the inevitable sunburn that it would take. Maybe next year!

I have to wonder if this is the same person who wore the dessert car in previous years. Regardless, I enjoy this Back to the Future costume, complete with Einstein!

The makers of the new X-Men television show bought the ad space on the adjacent parking garage this year. I wonder who those day actors are?

Across the train tracks from the convention was some giant gorilla bones to promote the most recent King Kong movie.

I wouldn't put it past Conan O'Brien to actually be in one of these outfits at some point.

With only a few hours to go, I decided to visit the Tick activation site one last time. This time I got to visit the viewing booth, which streamed the pilot on a loop and offered up shade and a comfy seat.

I can't say enough about this whole ensemble. How surreal it was to see all of this set up. Amazon put its full weight behind The Tick. Incredible.

I stopped for the photo op as well. Just a little more to your left.

They started tearing all this down at about 5:01, as the show ended. Gimme some of that scaffolding!

After getting some swag from the Tick site, I made one last pass along the convention floor. People dress up until the bitter end for this thing.

I spent the last hour or so at the New England Comics booth, where I found someone (not me) drawing some Tick artwork, based on Duane's cover to the 2017 FCBD book. He added the "K" to the title afterwards, don't worry.

5:00 rolled around and that was it for Comic-Con 2017. NEC art director Bob Polio commemorated the event.

I'm always amazed at how quickly everything comes down. I imagine that the carpet gets rolled up and tossed into the ocean or something.

I'm sure people find things to complain about, but considering its size and scope, Comic-Con International is the best run big show out there. They always do a great job.

On the way out, around 6:00, I saw this Ghostbuster and dog/marshmallow combo outside the convention hall. Was she waiting out there all day, or did she just decide that she didn't get enough Comic-Con? I understand the feeling.

One more round of pictures to wrap this all up. And then it'll be on to more pictures from another show. Yeah!
