Crochet, anyone?

I just received this image of a crocheted Yeti (capital "Y") in my inbox from none other than June Gilbank of PlanetJune.  I commissioned June to create the likeness of the Yeti character after seeing some of the other work she's completed - yes, pretty much everything she's done is adorable.  JUST LOOK AT THIS MONKEY:

I'm pretty thrilled with the way things turned out, and just as thrilled that June will be selling the pattern on her website (in case you want to make your own) with a link and a reference to the Teddy and the Yeti website/comic...so now I have an inroad with the crochet crowd...yes!

I will also be selling this Yeti - but the completed figure as opposed to the pattern.  That is, I will be doing that once I either learn how to crochet or find someone who is capable.  Uh, Mom?  I've never seen you crochet before in my life, but I'll bet you're able with your magic mom powers.  We'll see.  This is just one step in the process, but it's a big one.  Look for this to show up in the online store once we get up and running with the needlework.  If nothing else, I'll be sure to have a basketful on hand for the New York Comic-Con.

This is a separate entity from the Yeti doll crafted by codename: Punkvixen from the Etsy website.  Those are still on their way and are about twice the size of this crochet version, and I plan on having both available (for the discriminating consumer) at some point.  Just look at it this way: my ancillary potential Yeti merchandise just increased by 100%. The world is now a better place.

what I got in the mail today

Today was a pretty big day all around - for one, it was the first day of the Pittsburgh Comicon, and things went well.  I'll toss up a few pictures from the show soon - right now, though, I thought I'd show off my great big mail day, and perhaps everyone can be jealous.  It's okay if you're not, though.

First on the list is the grand debut of Teddy and the Yeti #3.  UPS delivered this on Wednesday, but I finally got to the boxes today.  The books turned out really well - both the 'regular' cover that you see above, with art by Tom Scioli, and the 'convention exclusive' edition with a cover by Jorge Correa, Jr.  I'm thrilled with the quality, really.  Just take a look at the inside:

After coming home from the convention's first day, I found the following waiting for me:

Etsy's Punkvixen sent me a few stuffed Yeti dolls that she put together.  After a few adjustments made since the previous model, I will say that I'm really pleased with how these came out.  I'm taking them to the con tomorrow, where I can hopefully send them to new homes.

Artist extraordinaire Paul Tucker surprised me by sending some of his books, including a copy of Borderland from Viper Comics.  Paul drew the Mr. Massive story in the back of issue #2, in case anyone forgot - and this stuff is no less impressive.

And lastly...

I got my shipment of Futurama toys in today - four in total.  So take that, PuzzleZoo!  I managed to snag all the figures I was missing.

All in all, a pretty spectacular mail day.  Pittsburgh Comicon, day #2 is tomorrow.  Time for sleep.

Almost there...

A while ago I had a Yeti doll made by someone I met on Etsy, the place where people go to sell homemade sweaters made out of hair and such.  I wanted to make some changes to the look of the doll, so I contacted another crafty person to incorporate some of those new ideas.  The result is to the left, and I will say this: we're getting close.

There are going to be some new changes - I'd like there to be a little more white fur around the face, and we might tweak the mouth a little, but I think we're maybe one step away from having a Yeti doll that can bear the name "OFFICIALLY LICENSED" at some point.  Yes, all of the letters will be capitalized.

Once these are done and I'm happy with them, I'll try to get them up on the website if it's feasible.  I think that if I ever sell one, though, it'll probably be at a convention.  It just seems to be more of a "convention" item.
